Exploring the Food Scene in the Fort Worth Stockyards
The Fort Worth Stockyards are a massive, preserved historic district that leans heavily into Texas cowboy culture. You will find actual cattle drives twice a day, massive honky-tonk bars, and people wearing cowboy hats without irony. While it is highly touristy, the dining scene here is fantastic, heavily focused on massive steaks and traditional Tex-Mex.
A Stockyards Original
Cattlemen's Steak House is located right in the heart of the Stockyards and has been operating since 1947. The interior is dark wood and highly traditional. Order a massive, charcoal-broiled ribeye, a baked potato, and enjoy the deeply authentic, old-school Texas atmosphere.
Bacon Burnt Ends
Located just outside the main Stockyards district, Heim Barbecue is incredible. They are famous for inventing 'Bacon Burnt Ends'—massive, fatty chunks of pork belly that are smoked, glazed, and melt in your mouth. Their brisket and green chile mac and cheese are also fantastic.
Western Bistro Fine Dining
Created by celebrity chef Tim Love, Lonesome Dove Western Bistro offers a highly elevated, expensive take on cowboy cuisine. The menu features exotic game meats—think elk sliders, wild boar, and rabbit-rattlesnake sausage. It is a fantastic, unique fine-dining experience.
The World's Largest
Billy Bob's is a massive, sprawling complex that bills itself as the 'World's Largest Honky Tonk.' It features an indoor rodeo arena, dozens of bars, and a huge dance floor. While the food is standard bar fare, you go here for the massive, overwhelming Texas experience.
The Cattle Drive
If you plan to eat in the Stockyards, try to time your arrival around the Fort Worth Herd cattle drive, which happens daily at 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Watching actual longhorn cattle being driven down the brick streets of Exchange Avenue is a fantastic pre-meal experience.
World Cup 2026 Dallas Tips
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is staggeringly massive. AT&T Stadium is located in Arlington, which sits directly between Dallas and Fort Worth. Arlington has zero public rail transportation. You will absolutely need to rent a car or rely heavily on expensive rideshares to get to the stadium. If you rely on Uber after a match, expect to wait over an hour in intense heat while surge pricing multiplies your fare.
