Authentic Mexican Food and Tacos Near East Rutherford
Northern New Jersey has a massive, vibrant Latino community, which means the area surrounding MetLife Stadium is packed with incredibly authentic Mexican, Colombian, and Central American cuisine. If you are tired of generic stadium hot dogs, finding a local taqueria is the best move you can make.
1. Taqueria Downtown (Jersey City, NJ)
This is perhaps the most beloved, authentic Mexican spot in Hudson County. Located in downtown Jersey City, it offers a gritty, loud, West Coast-style taqueria experience. Their carnitas tacos, massive burritos, and stiff margaritas make it an incredible spot to pre-game before taking the train out to the stadium.
2. Los Cuernos (Newport / Jersey City)
Owned by the same brilliant team behind Taqueria Downtown, Los Cuernos is a much larger, slightly more upscale Mexican restaurant perfect for large groups. It boasts an incredible tequila selection and fantastic mole dishes, with plenty of seating to accommodate loud supporter groups.
3. El Azteca (Passaic, NJ)
Located very close to the stadium in neighboring Passaic, El Azteca is a hyper-local, no-frills gem. If you want a massive plate of chilaquiles or some of the best al pastor in the state for under $15, this is the spot. It is heavily frequented by locals, ensuring you get real, unabashed flavor.
