Essential Checklist: What to Pack for a World Cup Tailgate

Updated: June 202625 min read

If you have decided to brave the logistics and host your own tailgate at MetLife Stadium, preparation is everything. Once you park your car, you cannot easily leave the lot to run to a grocery store. Forgetting a crucial item can quickly ruin the atmosphere. Use this comprehensive checklist to ensure you are fully equipped for a World Cup matchday.

The Non-Negotiables

These are the items that will literally prevent you from eating or entering the stadium. You must have your digital parking pass pre-loaded on your phone (service in the lots can be spotty), your match tickets secured in your mobile wallet, and physical ID (a passport or driver's license is required if you are drinking alcohol). Do not forget the propane for your grill, the spatula, and a lighter.

The Essential Packing List

  • Shelter and Seating:

A 10x10 pop-up canopy tent (essential for July sun), folding camping chairs for every member of your group, and a 6-foot folding table for food prep and games.

  • Consumables and Cleanup:

Paper plates, plastic utensils, Solo cups (for liquor), paper towels, heavy-duty trash bags, antibacterial wipes, and a dedicated roll of toilet paper.

  • The Clear Bag:

MetLife Stadium strictly enforces the NFL Clear Bag Policy. You cannot bring a regular backpack or large purse inside. Ensure you pack a stadium-approved transparent bag for your keys, phone, and sunscreen.

Pack your vehicle logically. Put the canopy tent and folding table in last, so they are the first things you pull out when you arrive at your parking spot.
